About the Series “Alleverythingthatisyou”

“My perception is constructed with the materials of my life. A lifetime of memory, hopes, joys, disappointments and losses. Snow drifts knee high. My pride and my inadequacies. All these are pieces of me and they are all the same and they are all different and we are all the same.

The simple snowflake falling from the clouds is what raw information I experience with my senses, but in my mind I build a unique perception of my experience of the world outside. I build a world with the materials available to me, my skull is an igloo. Within this living skull the world exists; the world as I perceive it, the world is constructed by me within my skull every minute of my life; this is my sphere. Art is human consciousness theorizing about itself, and itself within the world it has created. The idea that art can or should provide answers calls for an impoverished view of the reality of human consciousness. Art reflects and asks questions about our perception. Answers, if possible, implies finality. We are looking for the changing, and the infinite. Inside our skulls, every minute of life, the world is played out for its inhabitant. The snow crystals, each delicate one starting to break apart as they tumble out of the clouds, grown too heavy to hang out in the sky any longer. They crash into one another as they fall, merging and fracturing and sublimating. Simple and complex, they are all the same and all are different, hexagonal crystals growing outward in branches from their 6-sided molecule of H2O, they are the pieces that make up your perception of your life. Everyone of them that built that living igloo in your head where the world is constructed.” – M + D Starn
