We often relate to sculpture in terms of weight, strength, volume or durability, but Tom Carr’s installation Turritopsis presents the exact opposite and makes literal use of the subtitle “The Limits of Sculpture”. Here, we get to see an intriguing time-lapse of Carr installing some of the works at the Contemporary Art Center in Huarte, Spain. His process is unveiled as we see how he uses light, shadow, space, and movement to explore the ethereal qualities of fragility and passivity. Even the extremely large pieces which at first seem to dominate the viewer, reveal a whimsical secret of lightness and relatability to those who participate.
