Sébastien Strahm was born in 1980 in Delémont, in the Swiss Jura, and studied at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Genève (now HEAD) from 1999 to 2003. During this training, in the studios of Peter Roesch and Claude Sandoz, he developed an artistic practice focused on the theme of landscape.
Through recurring travels in Asia (Mongolia, China, Thailand, Japan, and Malaysia) and other parts of the world (Australia and the USA), his interest in traditional representations from Eastern cultures, as well as the Western gaze imbued with exotic imagination, led him to create various series of works oscillating between installation, painting, and sculpture. A contemplative perspective on nature and its details, connections with art history, and an experimental creative process are the defining elements of the artist’s personal language.
Since 2004, Sébastien Strahm’s work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Musée jurassien des Arts in Moutier, the Kunstmuseum Thun, the Kunsthaus Biel / Centre d’art de Bienne, the Kunsthalle Palazzo in Liestal, the Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp | The Forestay Museum of Art, the Museum Franz Gertsch in Burgdorf, the Villa Bernasconi in Geneva, and the St-Roch Chapel in Cessay (France). He has also held solo exhibitions at Galerie Selz in Perrefitte, Galerie du Passage in Moutier, Galerie du Soleil in Saignelégier, Galerie Paul Bovée, and La FARB in Delémont.
Sébastien Strahm’s works have been acquired by private collectors and public collections, including the Art Collection of the Canton of Bern, the Jura Fine Arts Collection, and the collection of the Musée jurassien des Arts in Moutier.
